I'm using CCS 3.1.0.2 and I'm going to CCS4
During setup, when the box pops up to enter name, company and Serial No., I took the SN from my CCS3.1 program (Help--->About CodeChargeStudio...) and stuck it in SN box on the ccs4 setup screen. It says it's invalid. Do I need to install it under Trial Version first, then go in and put the SN number in? I didn't want to do this because I don't want it to not work, and then be stuck with a trial version today

Yes do use Trial and then enter the NEW serial number for CCS4!
You want to keep your old CCS3 number, as you can use both side by side or side by side on separate machines.
Have fun with 4.

But shouldn't my Serial Number with 3 work with CCS4? Or do I have to buy a new license for 4? We bought the non-perpetual license with says we get free major updates

I bought the upgrade from 3 Perpetual to 4 perpetual and got a new serialnumber.
I know what you are thinking, 3 never felt completed.....

Well, from posts I understand 4.1+ coming up.
So that is perpetual, 5 would be another upgrade though lol
Greets,

I believe 4 is a total rip off. Documentation sucks, way too many problems in creating ajax enabled pages, incomplete support for JSON/XML (the built in wizards do not support paging, sorting on generated JSON/XML). The JSON/XML output is not compatible with any AJAX control toolkit in the market. Switching languages on the project (i.e. from ASP<->PHP<->ASP.Net) breaks AJAX enabled page. ASP.Net has no Atlas support or support for third party controls.........etc.... etc...
Don't get me wrong, I have 3 & 4 licenses and still believe it is far better than anything out there. May be I was expecting too much from ver 4.

I feel your pain... I wasn't going to upgrade until I really had to... but I have customers on 4.0 so I got to that point. Some stuff in 4.0 is really cool, Dependant listboxes for one. And don't get me wrong... I've been a CCS user since before it was STUDIO. The 4.0 upgrade seems to be lacking the usual "You gotta have this new option" that other major upgrades did.
Still love CCS and still making bucks using it!
Rick
