Don't use GoDaddy support but have you tried asking GoDaddy to allow your
IP???
I use HostGator and you can put your authorised IP's using your control
panel

hello, could you post how to do this?
thnx in advance
------ added comments
Ok, first of all i am a newbie on CCS and i host most of my applications in godaddy servers.
first i thought that i needed an DSN in the godaddy servers, so my live applications could connnect to the DB and thats why i got into this post so i though id post the answer to my question in case another newbie arrives here.
It turns out that ODBC/DSN is not needed in the godaddy server you just need to change the connections settings array in the common.php
"Connection1" => array(
"Type" => "MySQL",
"DBLib" => "MySQL",
"Database" => "databasename",
"Host" => "localhost",
"Port" => "3306",
"User" => "root",
"Password" => "",
"Encoding" => array("", "utf8"),
"Persistent" => true,
"DateFormat" => array("yyyy", "-", "mm", "-", "dd", " ", "HH", ":", "nn", ":", "ss"),
"BooleanFormat" => array("true", "false", ""),
"Uppercase" => false
)
ckroon: thnx for the help!
hope it helps anohter newbie

well this doesn't explain anything, because you just pasted whatever is generated in CCS into COMMON.PHP
the problem is that they do not allo remote connections and I do not see other way of testing App than installing local MySQL server and after its ready uploading it to the working server (while changing connection string). This is very painful process and not really something I would bew happy to do. Perhaps there is another way, so I would be happy to hear any suggestions...

This is only for applications hosted in godaddy. what you want is to have a local application pointing to a godaddy database, maybe you need to use a tunneling like sqlyog's or something like that (i havent tried it but its an idea).
Personally I prefer to have all local then upload everything except common.php.
have a nice weekend

I use a remote connection to my godaddy server all the time.
I have a dedicated server, but as long as the firewall has port 3306 open and you have mysql set up to allow you to connect, you should be good.
You may just need to make sure that mysql has your ip address, or wildcard put in it's hosts information.

well this is obvious, that on dedicated server you can connect remotely and its completely different story, so probably you case doesn't apply to this question. I'm talking about standard account where GD doesn't allow you to connect remotely. You need to build connections string, uploadit to the server (you app), then you can use it. The problem is that in this case I have to have my local MySQL server setup, I must have 2 diferent connection strings and after the App is ready I have to upload it to the server. Every little change in the code requires constant uploads. This isn't best solution but it would work. My problem is that I'm still in the stage building connection string, because for some reason whatever I try isn't working, and GD doesn't help at all.

OK, it took me 21 hours to figure it out. I hope this helps you. These are the conditions I made it work under:
IT'S A GODADDY VIRTUAL DEDICATED SERVER OR A DEDICATED SERVER.
AS FAR AS I KNOW, IT WILL NOT WORK WITH SHARED HOSTING.
I HAVE PLESK INSTALLED.
STEPS
1. LOG INTO YOUR PLESK ACCOUNT
2. WHEN YOU FIRST LOG IN, YOU WILL SEE YOUR SERVER HOSTNAME AND HOST IP. THIS IS THE MAIN IP YOU WILL NEED. EVERY DOMAIN IN YOUR PLESK ACCOUNT MIGHT HAVE A UNIQUE IP, BUT THIS MAIN HOST IP IS THE IP YOU WILL NEED.
3. COPY THAT[/I] IP ADDRESS AND PAST IT INTO THE ODBC/JDBC PROGRAM YOU ARE USING (MAC ODBC ADMINISTRATOR FOR EXAMPLE.)
4. FOLLOW THE STEPS AND ENTER DATABASE NAME, USERNAME, PASSWORD, ETC.
IT SHOULD WORK WITH NO PROBLEM.

FYI, it will work with GoDaddy shared hosting.
All you have to do is:
1) setup your database on their external db servers (when creating your db it asks)
2) setup a dsn on your local box pointing to the external db server
3) setup your connection to point to the external db.
Works like a charm. I can edit locally against the godaddy db, as well as publish my site and it works the same way.
Enjoy.

As an aside....
If you are using a shared hosting plan, you can connect to the MYSQL db with Navicat... upload the ntunnel file to your root, then connect with Navicat using the http tunnel tab.
