All,
Any recommendations for running a forum with several topics.
phpBB or any other package.
The CodeCharge forum example seems a bit primitive.

Well, to be fair the code charge forum example - is exactly that - an example.
You could improve it, or start a fresh and build what ever suits your needs.
If you do not have time, and would prefer to use an out of the box solution then SMF (Simplemachines.org) would be my suggestion :)
But at the end of the day - you have to find that product that suits your particular needs best... this kind of question only ever ends in 'my forum software is better than yours' kind of arguments, and it really isn't conducive. So my second suggestion would be to try out a few and see what you prefer :)
All the best,
Tony

Tony is right
I have built my own forum and modified othe Open Source forums and even used a version of vB commercial forum and concluded by far the best route for me was to use SMF. The forum is full featured, easy to install, easy to administer, easy to skin, attractive and reliable...What could be better?
It integrates well with CCS generated sites, shopping carts and blogs.
Take a look at the code required to make it appear easy to install and use and you save a lot of headaches, time and money by not reinventing the wheel. Building a high quality secure forum is not a trivial task, the development team that volunteers their coding skills have 10s of thousands of hours buidling refining and updating the code with new features, increased performance and security updates.
