I have a project that was working fine but during the course of the last week I have apparently done something that has resulted in the situation that the project cannot create any session variables, including the login session variables. I have recreated the login page and have runout of ideas to explore to remedy the problem. Any resolution would be appreciated and compensated.

The development environment is Windows XP SP3, CCS 4.1.00.032, php 5.2, PostgreSQL 8.2, Apache2

regards,

bernie

Damian - thanks for the reply. Nothing is silly at this point. I'll try it.

Well it was worth a try but it did not fix the problem.

are sessions being set on your other apps?

are ANY sessions being set - eg - after you login can you access restricted pages?

have you modified any of your common pages? do any of them have code on white backgrounds?

have you regenerated project?

Here is maybe a silly question.

Does this occur in all instances of the app?

Ie: local browser, remote host, & in CCS live tab...

I have a similar problem on win2k if the app is running in the CCS Live page tab.

However in a local browser and on the remote host all is ok.

Just a thought.

Response to last two posts:

Damian - 1) other apps are creating and setting session variables, 2) no session variables are being set for this app - I'm using php and have a session file that logs all session variables for debugging purposes. 3) common pages - I think i have probably done something, at least all of the evidence points to that. I have not found anything however. 4) yes I regenerated the code and republished the project.

John - it occurs on all instances - Live Page, localhost and server modes.

thanks to both of you for thinking about this.

Hi Bernie.

Sounds like a common file issue somewhere.

Try creating a new blank project.

Then copy only the application files to the new blank project.

ie: ccp, html, php, & _events.php for each page only.

Set up the projects connections

Then re-publish

That might work

if other sites are working on the same machines -
I would try to create a new project with the same settings as per jjrjr1's last post in this thread:
http://forums.yessoftware.com/posts.php?post_id=103278
and then transfer pages over....

I have begun that process (thanks John) and it's working. I just have to move about 75 pages manually - as far as I can tell. So it will take some time. It might be useful for future development to have a 'project copy' utility for this type of situation.

thanks to everyone who weighed in.

bernie - i wonder if instead of copying 75 pages one way - what about (after backing up first!) copying new project over old....
-or-
actually deleting all the common files and then regenerating
(backup backup, backup)

Possibly - just to be clear - by common files we're talking footer, header that sort of thing?

I suspected it was more involved than I was making it out to be. I wonder if I copied over the .ccp files and ran code generation that the common files would be then generated for the project?

This was finally resolved by creating a new project and using the Copy To function to manually copy each page. This did not work with static menus which had to be recreated. I still do not know what the real problem was so this was a solution that was found by trial and error.

Thanks for all of you help though. I learned some things.
