no linebreaks in email in outlook express

can anyone tell me, why
. chr(13) .
doesn't make a linebrake in an email, that is sent from an form generated by CC (php,mysql) and is received by MS Outlook Express, while there is no such problem in MS Outlook?

any idea?

What's the difference betweesn . "\n" . and . chr(13) . ?
