Crash after 4 hours work... no auto-save?

I'm relatively new to ccs (using v4.1.00.032), and I after doing about 4 hours of work on a specific page in a project this morning, ccs crashed when I tried to go do some work on another page.

I restarted ccs, and loaded my project back in, but it was the original project with all 4 hours of work gone! I had just published the project to the server a few minutes earlier, so I have the modified code on the server.

Is there a way to load the published files back into ccs?

Any help/suggestion appreciated.

P.S.- It seems odd to me that ccs does not have some kind of auto-save feature that can save snapshots of your project along the way.

I'm not sure but in order to generate the pages, you must have saved the
project. Otherwise I don't think it would generate anything. In any
event, you can't use generated pages to recreate a CCS project although
you can copy and paste in any custom events from the generated pages and
you can reuse the HTML templates.

P.S., CCS has closed unexpectedly for me since the earliest versions so
it's important to save VERY frequently.

ccs doesnt auto save by design i think
that way you can test code, make changes, move something, publish it each time, bugger it up and get back to your original simply be closing an opening.
the ability to publish and test without saving is to me a great feature
but save as soon as you get it working!

Well at least since I published it just before it crashed, I have all the code, but it's still a pain in the butt... it will probably take a couple of hours to recreate the 4 hours I lost!!! I can see now that frequent saves are necessary!

By an auto-save feature, I don't mean that it saves your project like it would when you close ccs or hit the save button... by auto-save I mean it saves your project in a separate autosave folder that is different from your project folder. The auto-save would occur every X number of minutes, and if you messed up your project, you could still close it and not save your changes. But if ccs crashed, then there would be a copy of the .ccp and .ccs and other files in a different directory if you wanted to restore it.

I've been using ccs for less than 2 months and already had two crashes that have left me with lost code and lost time. Any benefit gained by the software is certainly being outweighed by these crashes.

Hi

You actually can recover CCS pages from published pages..

For example, let's say tou have a page called page.ccp

Go to where your pages were published and find the following files

page.php
page_events.php
page.html

Copy those 3 published files and place them into your projects folder.

I believe when you open the CCP file your pages will be restored.

Have fun

That sounds almost too easy!!

Support says you can't recover your ccp files from published files, but it certainly can't hurt to try! I already redid the sections of code that were lost anyways which probably took about an hour to redo it and test it.

I have now implemented a 'manual auto-save' feature... I manually click the save all button as often as I remember to, which will hopefully be enough to avoid this problem in the future! It 'automatically' happens when I remember to do it! lol

I added the following to the ccs list of suggestions:
Auto-save feature that automatically saves your project in an autosave folder (separate from your project folder) every 5 or 10 minutes. It should NOT affect the way the normal save works, meaning if you work on a project, and then choose not to save the changes when you close ccs, the auto-save feature will not affect this.

As an another option/alternative I suggested that whenever you publish your files, a copy of all the files inlcuding the ccp and ccs files could be saved into a published folder. This would provide a backup at least back to your most recent publish date.

Hi

I think that is true if you have lost your CCP file. You would not be able to re-create it from published files.

I, however, have had some success moving the published files to where the CCP file is and opening the CCP file.

Let me know if that works for you.

Now I am curious and am going to run an experiment.
Seems to work only for the html template.. sorry..

Have fun
