I'm trying to implement an appointment scheduling program and thought that I'd start with the calendar example in ExamplePack2. I've tried following the instructions, but have run into a problem. Step 3 of the instructions call for adding a DayNumberLink control. When I go through the settings, all is well until I get to:

"In the 'General' tab select CurrentProcessingDate in the 'Text from Database' and the current page in the 'Static address' property"

I'm able to configure these settings as specified, as well as the parameter settings that follow, but in so doing, I immediately loose the settings in the first part of Step 3. As soon as I accept the Href Source settings by clicking "OK," the ControlSourceType entry is reverted back to Database Column, the ControlSource is blanked and the DataType is reset to Text.

What the heck am I doing wrong?

BTW, if I set the Text to Display to "Special Value" instead of "Text from database," as called out in the instruction, I am allowed to save the other settings. However, setup this way, I still have a problem in that the dates with events are blank in the calendar, rather than showing as links with the appropriate day of the month number...

Thanks for any help,
Dave

Hi Dave,

I'm not familiar with the ExamplePack. Can you explain what you are trying to achieve and we can maybe take it a step at a time.

Graham,
he goal is essentially to display the date label for each date on the calendar if there are no event entries for said date, but to display a link control for each date that does have an event, and for that link to have a parameter that specifies the date to a grid that will display it.

The example calls for using two fields in the calendar, the DayNumber and a DayNumberLink, and then to alternatively set within the BeforeShowDay event, the visible property for each on and off depending on whether or not an event is found for each date.

I've set this up as close as I can following the instructions, and it does show the DayNumber label only on days without events, but on days with events, which it does identify, it just shows a blank day box on the calendar.

Thanks,
Dave

Dave,

Have you considered using a seperate link for the event? (not so good if you have many events on the same date). The reason I ask is that I usually leave the day number link for adding events and use the event link for displaying/editing events. The event link would display a value from a field in the events table.

Graham,
I actually am using a separate link, and I figured out the problem anyway. The first issue with the UI not behaving as the instructions stated was caused by some quirk in the presentation of the Href dialog depending on how the link control was selected in the UI - from the tree or in the design window. The problem of not being able to see the link in the calendar appears to be because I did not get it inserted into the same row as DayNumber...

Thanks for your assistance.
