Although I have never don it in Joomla, I have in other CMSs like PHMotion.
In PHPMotion I used obstart() then included the CCS application and echo the buffer. That might work in Joomla.
However you can include a CCS app in Joomla withe the Joomla Wrapper component.

wraper component works but it doesn't utilize passing parameters from external App to CCS app. I need to get Joomla jos_users information (or rather session variables) to use them in CCS app, so I can grant or deny access based on the user login.
There was some instructions on this forum, but I'm sort of new to PHP and I'm a little confused about how to do this. The best would be is someone will develop a Jomla component which will do this job. I will be willing to pay for that, and I know many others will do to.
What this component sould basiacally do is:
- get user info
- read user session variable
for further processing. Better yet if it could pass parameters back to Joomla variables.
For now I'm looking for simple (even 1 table app) which could i.e display data based on type of the user loged into Joomla site. If you could make something like that - it would be very beneficial for all.

I am currently trying to figure this out for myself too as I want to include apps that I develop for my clients in Joomla environment.
If anyone can point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, if I find out how to do it first I will post the solution here for all

I have already mentioned about this post above. Perhaps this works but many projects are not exactly the same, and instead of this info it would be much more helpful to d-load a working example. I tried that but it did not work for me,...

I have asked the people at Codecharge tools to make a Joomla tool but I never heard anything.
Perhaps someone out there will create a plugin for CCS that allows you to interface with Joomla's session variables.

I wish it will happen, and I'm ready to buy it.

I have integrated CCS into Joomla on my corporate Intranet - unfortunately it is not publicly available. I simply followed the steps provided in the post listed above to pass the user id info from ccs to joomla and it works great. It took very little time. I am not a php coder - just a hack.
Just remember back up files before you modify them so that you can restore them if something goes awry.

Congratulations. I wish I could see it in action. Perhaps you could recreate your implementation on DEMO site and share is with other. That would be great benefit to everybody.

I did not like the way Joomla uses iframe and I think its not integrated in a nice way.
The approach I have taken is to develop my own PHP CMS in CCS4, although my project is in its infancy it already has many features similar to Joomla.
I played with this idea for some time thinking why do I want to re-invent the wheel? There are plenty of CMS apps out there already! But, this way I have a core application (similar to Joomla) then I can add CCS4 developed modules directly and do any core application customisations in my CSS4 environment. Each time I improve my CMS app all clients (without customised verisons) benefit from the upgrade, I write once and collect the upgrade fees. I don't have to understand someone elses code, or app structure. Better! CSS4 provides most the tools to do this.
My toolkit is CSS4, notepad, MYSQL Workbench, MYSQL Query browser and a LAMP server.
