I would like to make a little introduction. I've been using CCS since 2006 and it really saved me a lot of time and I think the development team created one of the best frameworks. I use version 3.1 for small and large projects and even if there are minor problems I'm very happy with it.
When version 4 came out I bought it because of the new features and expecting greater speed. But the first tests were very negative, read: instability, crashes, disappeared components. I tried then with 4.1, same result, skipped 4.2 and today tried the last 4.3.x thinking that after more than 1 year all the issues should be fixed. Wrong! I was starting a very small project, just 3 tables, configured it, created a new page, inserted a simple grid, viewed with live view (I usually don't use it but wanted to test it in the new version), clicked the tab to get back to html view and pufff the whole window disappears!
After this post I'll reopen my old CCS 3.1 and use it for this project but I'm very disappointed.
Let me tell I'm writing this not just to complain but to encourage the development team to return to the good job they did with version 3, stability is the first thing!

niwicp,
Have you contacted Support about the issues that you are encountering?? If not I would suggest that you contact them ( http://support.yessoftware.com/support_new.asp ).

Mambo,
Based on my experience your suggestion will not work, support will not help.
Btw, complains also useless, Yes does not hear them.
Just 2c from customer since 2004 (and I expect your suggestion to contact support ).
PS: sometimes I think Peter is the only person who works in Yes ... part time.

Mambo,
thank you for your suggestion but reading the forum it looks to me this is not a personal problem rather a common problem. And if it happens just after a few a operations as I described, it's a serious problem. So I'm writing here to let others and Yes know there's a lot of people with problems and I encourage all those who find this kind of basic troubles to write here so that Yes would take the time to fix the bugs.
Anyway, since Yes may not be reading this thread I'm going to write them, and if they need a log or something else I'll be glad to help.

CCS is not a perfect product. Now, I have been developing with 4.1/4.2 for
over a year exclusively (have used CC/CCS since 2004?) and at least in the
ASP/PHP area, I find it very stable. That does not mean that all
functionality works 100% nor that I would not like to see many fixes and
enhancements but again ... it does work for the most part.
Now, Yes has the right to conduct business any way they want but support has
been declining lately (I received a response for a problem I submitted over
a year ago ... last week ) and just the silence about what is upcoming is
pretty discouraging. Obviously they may release next week the greatest
version :)

i use 4.2 regularly though not full time.
sometimes i will add a component, label etc to an existing page and it will crash ccs and close it. if i open ccs and do the same thing for the same result i reboot my computer and it all goes back to normal....
i still have some projects in 2.x and 3.x that i havent updated (and probably wont) to 4.x

I doubt it is as common a problem as you assume. In each of those versions where you had problems the rest of us, for the most part, were getting fine performance and stability.
Why do we not all have the same problem if it is generally a problem?
Saying it crashes without giving details of its environment and machine is not helpful for those wishing to help.
I have not had a crash in months, and I run the "Devil OS" Vista so that must say something about the basic stability of the 4.3. with at least one type of OS and scripting language.
For reference I am using PHP 5.xx and MySQL 5.xx and do not use ASP or dotNet.

I have to chime in regarding support.
every time I have asked a question I have gotten a prompt, intelligent answer. sometimes they have even gone beyond the call and written code for me!
I think the one year response time must have been some sort of snafu. I'm curious to know if anyone else is experiencing poor support lately. because I am not having those problems.

As I said in the previous post I contacted the support and I got a prompt reply but it looks too simplistic to me. They suggest to uninstall CCS 4.x and delete the following keys from the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\YesSoftware\CodeChargeStudio4
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\YesSoftware\CodeChargeStudio4
then reinstall CCS 4.3.
Did anyone test this solution?
I don't want to start a new project and create a couple of interfaces to find out I'm using a buggy tool.
To Stanj:
I'm happy to hear you've no problems but if you read the forums or the change history of the latest versions you'll find this IS a common problem and that's why I didn't specify my configuration, anyway my development platform is: XP, Mysql 5.1.32, Php 5.2.9-1

as frustaring as this sounds to those who do have issues the dozen people that have posted about terribly unstable setups must only be a tiny percentage of the total users... which does suggest that the problem is not strictly with the product
it is also far more likely that someone wwith an issue will post that fact than someone who has no issue posting that everything works...

Happy users don't post that's obvious. But it's also known that for 10 people contacting support or other customer care systems there are 5 to 10 times people (read 50 - 100) who are unsatisfied and just drop the product or go on with the problem thinking there's no solution.
Anyway I don't want to transform this thread in a flame. As I said I'm satisfied with CCS 3.1 but since I paid also for CCS 4 I would like to have it working fine too and I also hope CSS keeps evolving and stays up to date with the current trends.

I experienced crashes under Windows 7, until I granted Administrator privileges to the CCS exe.
Since then, I have no issues so far with v 4.3.00.54.

have you tried what support suggested yet? if not it might be a tad premature to start a thread entitled "version 4.3 still highly unstable" dontcha think?

In this day and age of virtual machines, any techie could help their own
cause by running something like Sun's VirtualBox and see if the problems
they're experiencing can be reproduced in other environments on the same
hardware.

I always have problems upgrading. Just as it crashes a million times a day, but hay I love CCS it still does some amazin stuff!!!
I'm on 4.2 ( I've also got 3.1 and V2 for older apps )
I did have problems installing 4.2 and I fixed it just as YES advised you to.
It's no big issue, get it installed, it is worth it...

Hi,
Since CCS 3.X I use the design view only for adding new controls, all the other things - moving controls around, deleting them etc I do in HTML view. I started using HTML view after several crashes so I switched to HTML view and I hardly have crashes.

Thank you baldwin, this is encouraging. I'll try this solution.
