Hello,

I'm not the only one who has been experiencing this issue. I'll be in a service page, writing in custom code. When I type in a quote, it doesn't even display the quote; it get doesn't get that far. Codecharge closes without warning and I'm stuck saying what the you-know-what is going on?!? It doesn't matter what page I'm writing code on, btw. It closes just the same. Why is it doing this? Is there a solution?

I forgot to mention probably two important items: The Codecharge version I am using is 4.00.00.015 and I am also using Microsoft Visual SourceSafe 2005. I think SourceSafe might be the culprit, but I figured I'd find out if there are issues with CodeCharge.

Thank you.

Did some investigation. It appears that the number of lines of code has something to do with it. In this one file, I have a little over 6000 lines of code. Now, I could type in double quotes in one function, and it'll work fine. I type it in in another function, codecharge will close out. So, it's not simply typing in double quote anywhere and it closes. Nonetheless, codecharge is closing.

I removed some lines of code and the problem went away. I don't know if it's a dll issue or what. Is there a file size limitation in codecharge?

If not, what else could it be?

Thank you!

Jeff

Jeff, make sure you notify support directly (Help -> Submit Support
Request).

In the meantime, 6k lines of code is a monster. Try splitting it up by
putting your own functions/classes into different files and
include/require them when needed.

Yes, thank you. I have notified support. I Debugged CodeCharge process with Visual Studio and found it threw an exception for a stack overflow error.

6k is big, but the file is only 205 KB. I mean, I've written projects in visual studio that had more than 6k lines of code, much more. I don't understand why CodeCharge can't handle 6k lines for a 205 KB file. User files nowadays are exponentially more massive. I am taken aback, if the problem is the CodeCharge IDE was not designed to handle files over 200 KB, containing 6000+ lines.

CCS isn't exactly the world's best memory manager to say the least.

Finding this issue and getting support some details on your environment
will certainly give them a place to look and hopefully improve the
application for all of us.

Here's something to test... If you run two instances of CCS, will the
error now appear in a file only 3k lines long? I find that running two
or more instances of CCS increases the chances of frequent lockups and
crashes ten-fold.

I remember having the same problem with an earlier version 4. It might have been that one, but the problem went away after updating to the next release. Today another update became available, The OP is using a older version that has been replaced by at least 4-5 maintenance releases. We are up to 4.3.00.7676

Hi,

I haven't tried running two instances of codecharge yet but that is something I should try.

I reported it to the codecharge support team. I updated to the latest version and still had the same problem. I debugged it and sent them a few different files, containing the output and memory dump of the exception. I manged to deduce it down to a particular function in the file. I moved all the subsequent functions after that into another file and just played around with it, seeing what makes this thing tick, the problem. It was intermittent, still; I'd remove one line and no shutdown I'd restart and keep all the lines intact in the function and no shutdown. I do it again and, keeping the lines intact, and it shuts down. So, sadly, there is no consistency with this problem.

Only thing I know is there's a stack overflow error, and I am not sure what is the problem, since I'm not the only one getting it, within the group with which I work.

Hey,

I tried running two instances of CodeCharge with about 3000 lines of code in each page and it had no effect. So, it is not a simple memory issue.
