I have a bunch of includes that are used throughout a site.

How can I reuse includes on a different sites?

Currently I have copied these includes on to the other sites, but this is proving to be problematic when I edit the includes. I have to re-copy the newly-edited includes on to about 8 different servers.

It would save so much time to just upload once and be able to access them on different servers.

Any ideas?

the super frustrated,
Koren

i did a quick google and while it may be possible i think there are heaps of things that may not work. the include page uses the parent page to access common.php to get the db access details etc so will that work etc etc.
in the past i have made the db accessible to all those websites and i have written the include on each site but all accessing the one database eg for latest news
that way whilst im still maintainng multiple include files (not that they require much or even any once setup) i only have to enter the data in the database once.

why not publish the pages as full pages and use jquery to embed or do you need more integration?

Damian and Waspman
This is my setup:
I have 1 database with all my content for a bunch of different sites and sections of sites. The design is similar throughout all sites which allows me to use the same includes repeatedly for structure. I have been able to create about 35 includes that generate all 400+- pages that make up several unique sites. When I have to make a change to one include, I would love to just upload it to one main server and then all other sites would see the changes.

I think that I need to keep these pages as includes. I have some content in the includes change on the fly depending on its embedded page or site or other variable.

my site is sunnydayguide.com.. if you click on "Outer Banks" it will take you to a different site and from there you can go to about 6 different sites. All these pages are being generated from the same includes.

I hope I didnt loose you.

Just thinking out loud here... Technologies such as database table
partitioning, Apache mod_rewrite / mod_proxy, DNS geocoding are coming
to mind.

Believe it or not I've worked with a couple of multi-billion dollar
corporations over the years that have the same problem. Their solution?
Post the changes to ALL of the servers. :)

when you say same includes do you mean same includes on same server or multiple copies of same includes?

...but they are all the same regardless of where they are included?

Publish local and setup scheduled ftp?

Currently they are multiple copies of the identical includes in each sites' vhost .. (eventually they will be broken up and placed on different physical servers). My hope was to be able to have these includes shared from one main server (site) without having to copy over changing include pages to all 8 locations.

yes Waspman... I am thinking along that same line :(

Why are you breaking them up on to seperate servers?

I want to test seo change (if any) by using different IPs on each site. just an experiment.

Not sure how much multiple servers will affect PR.

I read somewhere that 75% of the reason why you get a good PR has nothing to do with your site?

Interested to see the results of the experiment. ;-)

For SEO and IP's, this is where Amazon's Web Services kicks butt. In
fact, you should be able to publish to your primary server and it'll
propagate to all others automagically.
