Results of simple beta 5 test, so far

After uninstalling the trial version of 4.3 and the beta version of 5, reinstalled beta 5.

The first test was from a simple microsoft access database, the earlier mdb type. Target is asp.net.

The builder works, using mostly defaults, up until the end of the build process. We get

"The following entities will be created...", followed by the list of tables and default controls.

...then nothing, for a while. Everything is greyed out. It doesn't lock the keyboard up or anything; you can still move this status window around. But you can't do anything with it, except exit.

After considerable delay, after exiting from the build status screen, the design and configuration editors are visible now. The connection seems to have worked.

I'm not sure how to actually build the application yet, it's been several years. But so far, it looks like everything connects ok, and the default design screens are accessible.

When double-clicking on the Diagrams option in the Project Explorer on the left, nothing happens. It doesn't bring up a blank screen, nor a screen with the tables in an ERD format.

Everything seems to be rather slow; sometimes to the point where it seems that Task Manager will be necessary. But eventually, most of the design functionality becomes visible.

It's not clear how to Browse things yet, but maybe that's a matter of going through the Help menus. The only thing that shows up in Preview, are Add and Edit pages.

Live Page doesn't work yet, probably because IIS isn't completely configured. Just enabled it, but that's about all.

Can't complain (yet), not having gone through the tutorials yet - but was rather hopeful that the default functionality generated from a simple local database, would be immediately viewable.

At this point, in the very early stages of testing, I'm pretty happy about ccs 5 (fingers crossed). I was sadly discouraged during 3.x after working with it for awhile, building some apps and finding it cumbersome to modify and debug; and hadn't planned to go back to CCS. But based on the wizard so far, as well as some of the Help content, this has some potential.

Will continue testing, with a SQL Server database, and report back.

I created a small basic ASP.net C# Inmotion project and MS-SQL Server with the Beta 5 on a new laptop with Windows 7. No older CCS version was pre-installed.

So far everything worked fine and I did not run into any severe problems.

Was surprised that the Beta still works with ASP.net 3.5 and does not support ASP.net 4.
