Turns out that all of the files properties were set to hidden and/or read only (which is appropriate in some cases). Resetting properties allowed CCS to see and update relevant files again. Nothing to do with CCS; it was the result of a page-embedded malicious script that zonealarm didn't catch quick enough last night.
Thanks for your help as it pointed me in the right direction ultimately! And, just fyi, I now have LOTS of backups!
Hello,
CCS4 project file was open when my system crashed. I re-opened file to find that all of the pages are missing from the listing and settings files are locked or ready only. I still have the individual ccs files for each of the pages as well as the common files. Is there an easy/er way to repair the project file?
Thanks so much,
Donna

Way 1:
aks for help from Support team.
Way 2:
try to fix it:
1. make backup.
2. open project file in text editor.
3. remove section <CodeFiles>..</CodeFiles>. Try to open project.
4. remove section <Connections>..</Connections>. Try to open project.
If no luck - create new blank project, configure connections, paths for publishing and move all existent pages to it.

Like mor said,
whatever you do keep Backup First, before doing any change.
