OK I am dumb, I admit it. Now the first thing I need to know is, WHY would one use ASP rather than JSP or PHP or Perl for example, or the other way round. Is each language better for certain things maybe???
Also, what is mySQL exactly???
OK I've downloaded the freebee stuff available on this site.....ie the ASP code and database etc. How can I now get this working on the internet??? Hosting packages offer all kinds of stuff but I dont know what I need. What do I need apart from a good teacher? Do I need cgi bin for this and what is that? Can someone help me to get this database up and running on the net? Your help will be much appreciated.

No matter you are a newbie or an experienced programmer, every new program/tool cost a lot of time to understand the possibillities. If you don't want to take that trouble, don't start with it. There are a lot of articles about ASP, PHP etc for beginners and I advice you to read them. I'm not sending you an email, if you don't want to take the time to visit the community, your interest in this program is low, probably too low.

well you are probably right, but I dont have that time. I'm trying to get something working which will help charities and if you knew what I've been threw in the past 5 years, you would understand maybe that I just need a help to hurry things along. You took the time to reply and I appreciate it. Just wish you could give me more time with some help in the things I asked about rather than old wise man stuff. While you were learning this, I was learning about how to help others with their troubles and they are now helped and on their way again. A few suicidal lives were saved I believe, so I wont feel guilty about not learning this stuff too quickly. I have a brain for other things....thats all my friend. But thanx anyway.

Pity you didn’t learn some ‘endearing’ qualities at the same time. That statement must qualify as one of the most condescending remarks I ever read on this site. What’s up is it on your horse to reach down and pick a book up?
There a thousand of people who find time to help others, often in the face of personal trauma and even physical difficulties….. ‘You’ may be helping a charity – but from reading your post, you think everyone else is one

OK The Whiz...I didn't come on here for an argument. I know who I am and what I'm trying to achieve and I hope you do too.....best of luck to you.......Are you an Arien by any chance. Oh, and perhaps some people cant read....did you think of that at all.

OK Adam, thanx for your offer. I think its probably quite simple really to a man who knows how. OK let me run it by you and see if you can help.......
On this website (GoToCode.com) I downloaded the freebee "yellowpages code" in the applications section. All I need to know is, how do I place these code files/pages onto my own server space so that I can use it for my own project. I'm not sure if I should use the ASP version or the PHP version or any of the other versions. I dont know if this even matters. I think I need to get Hosting space which supports the code I use....Is this correct? Do I really need to become an expert to use this. Look froward to hearing from you.
