Currently I have a Windows 7 laptop and use CCS 4.3 inside a Windows Virtual PC - XP Mode environment. I want to move to a Windows 8.1 laptop and use CCS 5.1 inside a Oracle VirtualBox - Windows Server 2012 environment.

Should I install 5.1 in my old XP environment and upgrade my CCS projects first. I have at least on project still in CCS 3.0 which I now need to upgrade to 5.1? Or will CCS 5.1 upgrade old 4.3 and 3.0 projects fine in my new target environment.

upgrade from 4.3 is not a pain is you did not used ajax function, etc
but make backup first, for sure you will have to do some tailoring

from 3.0 i will suggest go to 4.3, but make sure Explorer 9+ is not on the target PC
(do Check and modify according)
then Upgrade again to 5.1 and Check Again

Make Backup First at in Every step. <-----------------------------------

BACKUP again
