Hello!
Can somebody give some insight with regards of how difficult can be to develop an online marketplace for a customer, that has a similar functionality as this latin american marketplace: https://www.mercadolibre.com.ar/ for example how many days/months it can take to develop or if there can be problems with the payment platform, bank connection, etc.

Or perhaps it would be easier to use an open source marketplace software instead of all the hassle to develop one from scratch. If so, can you please recommend one.

Thank you for your comments
Best regards

From my experience the answer is "it depends". To date I have never used an off-the-shelf or open source solution for anything for any customer but thats probably much to do with who my customers are. There's a lot of good open source stuff out there and off-the-shelf stuff too but when given the choice my customers preferred something built specifically for them. What I mean by that is that I've used CCS for the backend and hand coded the front end. I really like CCS and I suspect you can do it quite elegantly (but CCS is showing its age and is crying our for an upgrade - regrettably I'm looking at other options hoping that CCS pops up real soon with something new).

I suggest using marketplaces that are already built, but choose ones
that are:

1. Written in a programming language and platform you're already
familiar with (PHP, .Net, etc.).

2. Have an open API for interacting with when needed.

Suggestions... WordPress with WooCommerce or osCommerce.

If the customer needs functionalities beyond the above, then that's
where you as the consultant can come in and create a fully tailored and
customized backoffice for them in CodeCharge Studio that will interact
with the aforementioned APIs, along with APIs from chosen payment and
procurement gateways.
