I downloaded the free application of Employee Directory. Everything works fine except that I can not insert a new dept into the table (DepsRecord.php)or even show in the DepsGrid.php file.

Silvia,
please provide more information about the problem.
First of all I assume that you have downloaded EmplDir from gotocode site and was able to modify connection settings in common file to successfully connect to db.
What exactly happens when you hit insert or update button on the record form? Are you able to update employees table?
