Buy O'Reilly books like Web Database Applications withPHP and MYSQL, read documentation, go to www.php.net, search the internet for tutorials and examples and try to figure out how they work. Stay up late and drink a lot of caffinated beverages!!!

Buy a good php book ->forget about CCS ->go back to CC. Study php code from CC and look up stuff in the php book you dont understand from CC code. If you feel comfortable with writing custom code for cc..-> forget everything from CC and use CCS ...-> Start all over at step one but now with CCS.
No kidding, CC realy tought me a lot of php, CCS however is a whole new ballgame
