I was just wanting to get some feedback on CodeCharge Studio Version.

How do you like it? How is it building php and mysql driven applications/websites? Is the code clean? Can the applications/websites that are built with the studio be transfered to a linux server without any extra libraries. ie. Front Page extensions.

The reason why I am asking is I have been building everything in HomeSite for over 2 years now. And I am looking for something to speed up my developement time. I just got a major project and I need something that will help keep my code clean, speed up my developement time, and not cause to much comotion while doing so.

Thanks,
George L.

Hi. I guess I can reply, since I've used both C.C and C.C.S for well over a year now.

I can say the overall C.C.S. is very powerful for OOP database driven websites. Of course it is still somewhat immature in some of its features and functionality. But it pretty stable. The code is pretty clean. One minor gripe from me is that some of the coding templates seem to be written from different people, so you will see different coding practices (different indentations , brackets,no brackets, etc.) Either that or they dont have a very strong developer management in place.

Another problem right now is the code-generation is somewhat quirky. For example. After generating your code and you enter some custom code over theirs, sometimes the generated code will not generate the original templates.

If you are wondering about porting from Windows to Linux or something like that, it's going to depend on your the Programming Language that you use. If you use ASP, for example, then your probably going to have to put something like ChileASP on your Linux Server and compile it to run with your web server (Apache). On the other hand, PHP can work on both Windows and *nix. (Ha! Open-source at it's best!). So the answer to your question is highly conditional on the coding environment you choose.

Overall, I like the Visual-Basic approach to this IDE. You should be able to speed up your development time, with the caveat that you have some basic fundamental programming skills and you give yourself about a two-week to a month learning curve on the application. This app is not going to build you a very powerfull out-of-the-box app. Your still going to have to add lots of custom code to make it how you want. And that is where i think CCS shines the most. It will allow you do this relatively smoothly.

Just a footnote. I prefer PHP for coding style. It's the best way to go!

Regards,
George
