Is there a mechanism within the CodeStudio IDE that can be used to change the tab stops for each control?

You may use tabIndex property from control/Properties/Format tab

using tabs :
test 1 tab
test 2 tabs
---------------

using spaces :
test 4 spaces
test 8 spaces
