66.180.229.147 belongs to CodeCharge. I havn't noticed this IP on my router but then again I have a registered version of CCS and also I havn't looked to hard in my traffic logs. I would believe that maybe this is how Yes Software keeps an accurate record of who is using their trial versions. It could be a method to ensure that people do not uninstall CCS, make a registry edit and then reinstall again by having a central database that records installs and having CCS check that database before it runs. If this is infact the method they use, there is absolutly nothing wrong with that. I believe Yes Software has every right to protect their software.

as a commercial software developer, I wholeheartedly agree to their right to protect their intell. property. However, I would NEVER release a package that sends information back to my site without the program notifying the user that it is doing so. That is an invasion of privacy, and there should be an opt-in notification with a clear explanation of what information is being sent from the user's computer.
