The product update page notes its release date as "December 2002".
Is that going to happen or is it just Microsoft style Vapor Ware DATE?

I swear, people complain so much on this board. They just came out with the Beta, December's not over yet, they've been feeding the tutorial pages will lots of new content, all due directly to community requests.

They're even working on better doc for the final Studio 2. And all free to owners of Studio 1!

For all that I think I can handle maybe waiting an extra month if need be. Just get us a quality product, YesSoftware! That's all I care about.

Well said imranz,

I prefer a stable - working version rather than a 'hurried' one just to appease people.
YS have (in my opinion) listened to the many voices here...... lets not pressure them as we'll all benefit from 'waiting' ;)

It would be nice to know the status of beta 2 though since my beta 1 expired and unusable.

1. -- YS has PROMISED another Beta release prior to the expiration of Beta-1. This promise was not kept.

2. -- To "imranz" and those who will wait forever: I have been in software testing for over 20 years. My latest involvement is looked upon all over the world - "International Space Station". Afterall the software I test is what flies it and keeps the crew safe.

With their forever evolving product YS should take a closer look at the model to customer satisfaction represented by "http://www.fineprint.com". For a while now they have been releasing patches/fixes on weekly bases.
It is better to do these incremental releases because if something goes wrong it can be easily fixed or retracted.
Any MAJOR fix, as YS is pursuing, is always in the mids of more controversy and customed dissatisfaction. YS employes the Microsoft model to software testing - The software developer is never wrong! - it uses its customers as guney pigs. And we all know how buggy MS stuff is.

We have large chunks of metal falling from the sky everywhere! There also appears to be the remains of a russian cosmonaut. YesSoftware, we are holding you responsible!

My Beta 1 no longer functions. So what do I do with it now? ---

imranz:
>they've been feeding the tutorial pages will lots of new content,

Where are these? Appreciate if you can point me to them.

Thanks...

Go to Codecharge.com

click on Support
Click on Faq and Knowledge Base
Order by Freshest...(this should have been set as Default Value)

I agree with Imrans comments and I was one of the dissatisified Cats in the Choir before the first beta was announced.

For me, at my level of undertanding of Programming, Updating the Knowledgebase with examples is maybe as important-if not more important than the next beta.

Saying that...please, please can I get the next beta yesterday.

I must say I'm shocked that you would label something Vapor ware just because a scheduled release date seems to be to optimistic. It states scheduled release date because things can happen. If they were certain December would be the month to release they would have called it release date instead of sched.release date. I myself hope they take their time to get all the possible bugs out of the software before they release it. I'm also anxious to get my hands on the next release but I'm more interested in being able to work with all the new features instead of getting a program crashing everytime because the custumors couldn't wait.

So I suggest next time you read more carefully and and take a little more care about what you're saying. After all, if you know of a piece of software that does what CCS does and does it better...move on. Why bother with CCS.

Thank you, RonB.

It being January 2nd as I write this, technically Yes is only 2 days late. That does NOT constitute it as vaporware in my book.

And, Mr. No Name, I worked for many years in the software industry myself. I know as well as anyone that has also done so, that GA (General Availability) dates are almost never dead-accurate.

That's just the way it is.

Thanks JamesR.

Not much exactly 'new' content there.

Imranz's comment "they've been feeding the tutorial pages will lots of new content" gave me another impression.

Thanks anyway. To both of you.

Regards.

There IS new content...

If you go to their support site and look at the list, and order by freshness, 14 items have been updated in December. That includes several new items and some updates to older items.

http://support.codecharge.com/kb_search.asp

That all spawned after complaints about its stagnancy were brought to their attention. At around the same time, the Beta of CCS 2 came out 11/28. Along with a promise of better doc for this next version.

Is Patience...a virtue or a variable?

Another Russian cosmonaut has fallen from the sky and his name tag says "noname". His dying words were something like "blasted vapor wa...". YesSoftware, this has got to stop!
RonB
Posted: 01/02/2003, 3:46 PM

Just before the cosmonaut plunged to his death he could just make out the words on his screen beside the MS logo...This is not a bug..this is a feature

Published schedules are exactly just that -- schedules. But they also say a lot about the ones publishing them. If you are not serious about your advertised schedules how can you be serious about your advertised product?
BTW, I stopped using CCS when I ran into some unexpected issues with the v.2beta1 with something that worked in v.1.0.7. I went back to CC2 which is better for RAD anyway.

"If you are not serious about your advertised schedules how can you be serious about your advertised product?"

Schedules arent set in concrete. It's people like you that encourage companies like MS and other big ones to release software full of bugs and security leaks. I think that's the great evil of our time. Like buying windows XP on the release day only to discover that you have to download an aditional 20 meg of patches and updates to be sure the thing does what it's supposed to do.

If it were a car would you be as eager to drive it if you new that because of early release, because of user demand, not everything was working like it should?

If you designed critical software would you be willing to release it even though you know it still has some problems that might turn out to be less then desirable, just because there are a bunch of people having trouble waiting a bit longer.

I think the people still on a 56k line weren't to happy being forced to download 20 megs of updates just to get their costly winxp in working order.

So I think I'll wait in patience and enjoy the beta, wich I use in a production enviroment because I like living on the edge :-)

CC2 is nice, but please... any serious webapplication design benefits greatly from the expanded possibilities that CCS offers. There simply is no comparisson.

Apearantly Yes has run into some issues with CCS that need to be adressed. I hope they take their time and release the thing when it's realy ready.

Ron

Ron, you are taking it all out of context!!!

Obviously you did not read my original posting, at least you did not pay much attention to it --

It is far better to periodically release small incremental fixes (that is what I mentioned) then one large release addressing too many omissions, fixes, and additions (the 20 Meg or so release that you favor).

... just put it to rest! We are not getting anywhere and you cannot fix it either.

Well if it does not work there is not much you can do. Just uninstall it and then pray to the software gods to bring you another "beta" present.

Just curious (I've been away from the boards for awhile) but how does one gain any respect in life with a name like "NoName"... In case anyone out there doesn't take the joke - why not have a name on the boards?

For the record, CCS 2.0 beta 1 is running fairly stable on my workstation. Anyone having problems with frontpage integration with it? (Ooohh... I know.. i mentioned the horrible word - Frontpage...) :)

Happy Coding,
Jon.

Jon,
never mind my "handle". I've used it for more than 20 years now.

Which version of FP do you use? FrontPage2002 (win XP) should be working fine. Any earlier release will clober your code.

20 years. Thats amazing. I cant belive that in 1983 you used a No Name handle. God. 20 years you say hu. That would make you about what, 7-8? Must have been a prodigy.

Yes Software has a model that in my history with it, has been doing both. They give the occasional patch or update, and then the less frequent big fat update. This is normal and natural for most software companies.

What it boils down to, Mr. No Name, is that we're talking about a BETA. Not a final product! A Beta!

A Beta is a trial run with no steadfast promises or declarations, and with no liability. If you can't handle that, don't download the beta.

'nuff said on this topic I think.

Ted, keep in mind that not everyone here is a kid. I have passed the half-century mark a long time ago!

I'm looking forward to 2.0 full release, the Beta 1 seems to be more stable than 1.0.x was on my system. Anyone had any luck importing completed CCS projects into Visual Studio?

Thanks,
Mike.
