Hello Joe
I said in another thread...
>>>>>>
I've used Bill's WYSIWYG Extension for 'Studio One'...It's a no brainer and has saved me a lot of time.
"About an hour ago Bill informed me of his 'Studio Two' version...due for release...when 'Studio Two' is released.
Sneak preview demo @ http://www.web-presentations.com/editordemo.asp
...additional features will also be added when 'Studio Two' is released.
It's a one click 'Extension insert'...that will be well worth the token charge of $25.
I hope this will encourage other 'skilled' developers...to find the time...to write and offer...free/chargeable 'Studio' extensions.
<<<<<<
So Joe...it looks like...we shall have to wait until...the release of Studio Two...for a continuous flow of "Studio' extensions" ...written for the 'hungry' and needy.
...along with the much needed documentation and promised 'examples'
I feel certain it's going to be well worth the wait.
Regards

Hi tony,
I like the work Bill's doing but..... There are a myriad of wysiwyg editors out there some of them are dead easy to install and FREE!!
Here's an excelent example of how to integrate the fine editor HTMLarea:
http://www.codechargers.net/ccs/kb.php?language_id=1&ca...=40&event_id=58
If you go to the site of the original distributor you'll find even more "extensions" to this fine editor that will give you extended control over tables etc and there are even examples in asp and php that contain an image upload feature. (a bit harder to install) All FREE
$25 dollars doesn't sound like much until you start collecting the extensions. If there is a steady flow of extensions your collection soon gets more expensive then CCS itself.
So $25 dollars just for a "click here" button( I know there's more work to it then that Bill but that's what the custumors will see) is a bit rich.

Hello again RonB
I very much admire the time and devotion you have spent...helping others on this forum...our Newsgroup...and www.codechargers.net
BUT whether a developer works for himself or for a company...by himself or with a team...his time is his greatest asset....and it's his 'coding hours' that keep him alive.
As you know...a Web Application Developer...more then most...needs to understand and research current and future projects...and their complexities.
He also needs to be able to exploit the ever changing hardware and software used or needed...as well as support passed projects.
He also needs...to understand...and 'try' whenever possible...what's coming...Studio Two, .Net etc...and be aware of...a whole bunch of stuff like...WiFi...the 'PDA' market and all types of client/server side...hardware/software technology...not forgetting...the soon to be arriving 64bit hardware/software...etc, etc.
This often causes a developer to spend too much time on UNBILLABLE hours...and far less time actually coding...then he should.
He knows his 'coding hours' keep him alive BUT!!!
Since April of last year...I have spent countless UNBILLABLE hours searching the web for an HTML WYSIWYG 'browser based' editor...and of course downloading/installing/testing and comparing...the features and benefits...so much choice...too much time spent (
So Bill's token $25 is a gift to me...IT NOT ONLY EQUATES to saving time spent on coding...BUT it also saves me and anyone else...countless UNBILLABLE hours...searching/downloading/installing/testing/comparing...and then getting it to work with Studio.
Most mature products have spawned a multitude of add-ons...many costing over $300 each...So as I said in another thread
<<<<<<
I consider it essential to have as many tools...free/purchased...in my toolkit as possible...for current/new projects.
I have been buying developer add-ons for over twenty years...because I never have the time or the foresight...many developers spend more on add-ons then their developing programme.
Skilled and talented developers who can exploit the short comings of a programme...feed their families and survive by providing tools for other developers.
<<<<<<
I hope your distaste of the $25 token charge by Bill...does not discourage any other "Extension Builders" to give up sharing...for a token fee or whatever...their extensions or other add-ons.
To expand and keep up with technology...Studio needs to get the market share and popularity it deserves...
I believe...the availability of an ever expanding library of free/chargeable 'extensions'...and other add-ons...will do more to encourage 'Web Application Developers' to join and STAY with our community...then Studio itself.
Regards

Well tony, all true. Every word of it. And ofcourse you are free to use Bill's excelent extension. I was in no way trying to diss Bill's work. He's probably a hell of a lot better at the stuff then I am. I got a nack for understanding a user interface and am pretty good at cut and paste style coding. This means I am good at taking excelent work done by others and integrate it into what I'm working on. That's exactly why PHP is so well suited for me. The comunity advertises this way of live. I try and do my best to pass on what I learn and try to be honoust about what little of the code is mine and what's the cut and past part.
Maybe that's why I like to browse this forum and the one at codechargers.net to see if there are any questions I can help with. Just a guilt complex
Without CCS and the great PHP community I wouldn't be able to do what I do today. I mean... just 2 years a go I was a social worker working with drugaddicts. Today I still work for the drug addiction treatment center But now in the ICT department. Coded the first version of the intranet with CC and the second wqith CCS. If I take a look at the endles number of code lines spit out by CCS and even begin to imagine how much work it would have been doing all that work by hand.....I get an anxiety atack
Ron
PS. here's a short explanation and a zip file extending the htmlarea article on codechargers.net by Dave. It containes some extra features and an image selection and upload component in php. All excelent work done by others with a high cut and paste useability
dont forget to get the htmlarea file form dave's article first and then follow the instructions in my article.

Thanks for your prompt and courteous reply BUT...
I think you missed the intention of my reply to author Vilkern who created this topic about "Add-on's"
The point I was trying to make is that... 'ONE CLICK Extensions' stored in the Studio Extension library...is a facility that...SAVES CODING HOURS
I was pleading for more extensions from those skilled enough in the community to create them...Other then Bill who else has created extensions?
I genuinely thought that Bill's initiative of charging a token fee...would encourage others to share their extensions...and by charging a similar token fee or whatever they would earn something. I beleived this would act like a rolling snowball...I'm not suggesting an avalanche BUT at least some response.
It appears that I'm the only person interested in paying for extensions and $25 at that (
I had a similar problem...having to repeat myself on numerous occasions...trying to get support from the forum to persuade YesSoftware to...
I said...
<<<<<<
"Frustration isn't the only word I use...I would also like to see more detailed information...and soon...Come on Yes Software tell us what we can expect next...and when...over a month ago you promised regular updates to your "comprehensive Online Knowledge Base + FAQ + HowTo system"
...it is now Monday the 11th of August.
<<<<<<
Studio Knowledge Base Updates...as at 24 Feb...
Jun - 10
Jul - 6
Aug - 1
Sep - 3
Oct - ZERO
Nov - 15
Dec - 12
Jan - 3
Feb - 1
Just how long does it take...to cut/paste...each week to the web...a few repeatedly re-solved questions...answered by the Support Team...for all to see etc
So Ron..how do we drum up support for...
1 - More extensions
2 - Regular Updates to the "Studio's comprehensive Online Knowledge Base + FAQ + HowTo system"
