I would like to pass the UserName from login to a field for a grid search. I need more than a one or two word cryptic answer please, I'm a newbie.

Are you trying to filter on the username or just place a label for it.
If filtering:
Add a parameter in the datasource for the grid and add a where clause...:
1. Username (field)
2. =
3. Variable for the username (parameter source - look under advanced security settings in the project settings).
3. Session (type)
If trying to add a label.
1. Add the label
2. Add a before show event action... retrieve value for control.
2. The control would be the name of the label. The type is session. The source is the name of the variable.
