 Category / sub category ?

I am not sure I am doing this right ( of course it's not working so I should assume that).
I have a category table and a sub category table, and what I want to do is create a menu so to speak from the DB. The first page would display the categories from the category table, then link the category names to the sub category table, only displaying the appropriate sub categories relating back to the selected category. The DB is properly set, but somehow I am not sure about the form, I beleive the category form should just be a grid then link to the sub category form which is also a grid, and so on...
Any advice links etc would be appreciated.

Thats correct, link from the first to the second table etc with grid only, and that should be fine, have you tried it yet? it seems you don't have a detailed question?
