I get the error
Warning: Access denied for user: 'user@localhost' (Using password: NO) in public_html/sql/db_mysql.php on line 97 Database error: pconnect(localhost, user, $DBPassword) failed.
MySQL Error: ()
Session halted.
is it because I haven't specified a password?

if you specified a password for the database user then yes it is.

make sure you have the right type of database set in the server page, i had the same problem, and all it was was a matter of changing the database type

With mysql setteng the right database should not be an issue as CCS recognizes the database and will ask you if you want to change the database type to mysql.
