i get an undefined function error -odbc_pconnect(); in db_odbc.inc -on my webhost server, but it works fine on my production server (file structure is exactly the same on both)
what's going on?

Depends on the kind of server your host is running. It could be it does not support odbc. Try and find out what webserver is running at your host and what database is being used (should be the same as yours but you did not state wich enviroment you are using to develop: OS webserver scripting language database etc)
