I'm just posting this mainly to share. Microsoft announced a product yesterday called InfoPath that allows end users to create and share forms that access SQL Server data. To someone (especially a non-IT type) looking at this, they may see many similarities between what InfoPath does and what CodeCharge Studio does. There are two key things I think people should be aware of.

1) InfoPath makes average users developers, which should spell DANGER for any corporate enterprise. They are now empowered to thoroughly hose your data. Not a good idea.

2) InfoPath is $200 a seat, whether you develop or are an end-user. CodeCharge is $500 a developer - $0 an end user. You should quickly see which is cheaper if you have more than 2 end users.

Based on the posts here, it seems there are not a lot of enterprise developers using CodeCharge Studio (their loss) but for those who are in Microsoft shops
if you are trying to bring CCS into your enterprise, and your boss mentions InfoPath, you may want to point out the differences.

Hope this helps.

::
This InfoPath is an MSOffice component that compares to Adobe Forms Designer rather than CCS,

I suspect that even the most clueless IT-manager will balk at giving users the power to hose company data.

The screenshots at http://weblog.infoworld.com/udell/2003/03/29.html look interesting however.

Enterprise developers :
CCS lacks momentum and enterprise-level acceptance due to the lack of resources/encouragement/documentation for 3rd-party developers to release extentions/enhancements/utilities for the product. This restricts the potential large-scale developer to the wizards/guides/components included with the product.

This, coupled with CCS lack of collaborative workflow and the dimunitive size of the parent company has resulted in a negative to CCS from some design companies that I work for... You're right though, it's their loss and CCS enables me to do a lot of work for customers who can't afford upscale designers. If only clients knew how easy CCS is :-)

Thanks for an interesting post.
Dave
