Hi there!

I am an absolute beginner with an existing HomeBase (MSAccess) used book
database from which I wish to create webpages.

Can someone give me some guidance? If so please email me on
codecharge@dingwall.junglelink.co.uk

I renamed a copy of my proprietary .hdb file as an .mdb file , and I've
managed to create pages from the (4722KB) MDB file using the wizard but they
don't seem to do anything.

Kind regards

Peter

Ok , you've set up a connection for wizard and that's a big step for a
beginner.
When you say they do not do anything , what do you mean ?
Do you see empty pages or empty tables ?
The more details the more I can help you.

I can't get the asp's to bring up a web page. At first they came up as text
if i tried to open them in IE6, then when I told it to always use IE6 it
gave me an "open" dialog which disapppeared very quickly and nothing further
happened.

I tried telling it to open asp's with Netscape, and then Netscape went into
a loop opening 3 or 4 new windows which ended with
"Netscape is unable to find the file or directory named
/C|/WINDOWS/TEMP/V0832NLA.asp"

Peter,

This means that you are looking at a wrong page.
Instead of looking at .html page, please open the .asp page.
Please submit further questions to

Are you shure that you run ASP pages trough the web server (PWS 4.0, IIS4.0
or IIS5.0) ?

How do you call the pages published by CC ? What address do you use to run
your pages ?

Is like this: http://localhost/your_sub_dir/your_page.asp ?

Doru

I'm afraid I wouldn't know a web server if I found it in my soup. I guess I
shouldn't have tried this!

The addresses I'm using are:

C:\ProgramFiles\CodeChargeStudio\Projects\ReynoldsBooks\

C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ReynoldsBooks\

I'm not sure how to convert these into http://localhost addresses

Peter

Someone has now told me how to install Personal Web Server off my Windows 98
disk.

Now it all works. All I have to do is find out how I could edit the
resulting pages and possibly put them on the internet (if this is to be more
than just a learning experience).

What do you mean when you say *editing the resulting pages* ?
You can edit pages generated by CC in a HTML editor such as FrontPage or
Dreamweaver, leaving everything wich has brackets ( ex. {recordID} ) as it
is (if you are using ASP and Templates).

For publishing the application on an Internet server, first you check that
your chosen server supports ASP pages. Then you can upload the pages trough
FTP or other method supported by that ISP.
