Morning/Afternoon all,

I was wondering if anybody has managed to get CodeCharge or CodeCharge
Studio to work under Linux/Wine? Our shop is exclusively Windows based, but
we are more than ready to switch and the only thing keeping us back is the
fact that we use CodeCharge / Studio extensively (read 213 pages in the
project) for some applications.

Any tips, success stories or plans would be greatly appreaciated.

Best Regards,

Daniel Gaudreault

Hi... what is wine? a kind of Linux distribution?

I'm using it with Linux Red Hat + Apache (not the one that came with the
distribution). My apache was compiled with mysql and ibm/db2 DB support. And
it's working fine.

Regards,
Carlos.

Wine is a Windows emulator in linux. You can run a lot of
Windows programs under Wine nativly on Linux.

I Don't think CC is Wineable.. It uses ActiveX objects witch is native to
windows..

Kind Regards..

Dirk..

If activeX where a showstopper the whine project would probably not exist
anymore and lindows would be a dead end. I think activeX shouldn't be a
problem under wine.
Yes software said, sometime back, they were thinking of a version for mac.
If that ever came to be linux would be in reach as well since the new mac os
uses the bsd core. CCS under linux would be great because it's the only
thing holding me back from switching completely to linux.

CCS seems to rely on the IE ocx.. so you will have to install IE under Wine
first before you try CCS... thats my fealing.. My 98 box moaned about that..
And I like Mozila...

o well..

Codecharge is by far the largest blocker to my migration to linux, also. So
that makes two of us. I wonder if there's more out there ... :-)

I've talked about this before - it would be great for developers, but it
might be a pain for Yes Software in the support department.

I actually have tried several times to install under Wine, and feel as
though I am getting close each time...

But no luck yet,.. wouldn't mind working with someone to figure it out
though..

BTW I do run 98% of my stuff on linux, in a backward fashion. I have X-win32
running the X11 server on my windows desktop, which allows me to pretty
seamlessly integrate my windows and Linux universes on one desktop (oh and
my dual 19 monitors.. sorry LOL)

BUT.. CCS is my last holdback also, which is why we are probably pulling it
out of our development enviroment during our next software release..
sadly...

If you're seriously looking at moving to Linux and would like to continue
using CodeCharge then why not look at VMware Workstation
(http://www.vmware.com/products/desktop/ws_features.html). You'll need to
have some serious computing horsepower and of course it is definitely not
free but there are host versions for Windows & Linux O/S's.

Cheers,
Ian

No, do NOT do that... Instead, look at Win4Lin (www.win4lin.com). I tried
both VMWare and Win4Lin and IMNSHO, Win4Lin is superior to VMWare. It
(Win4Lin) is (at least on my box: Athlon XP 1600 with 512 Mb) MUCH faster
and more responsive. Nor does it take up as many resources/CPU time as
VMWare always did. Oh, it's also a LOT cheaper than VMware. :D IE $89 vs
$300. That's what I'm using RIGHT now with CCS. And I LOVE it... Granted,
you need a W98 license but...
