If the Common.xxx and other engine files are deleted from project
development folder, how do I regenerate them?
I know this sounds a simpleton's question, but my publish process won't
regen the commons, just the application pages.
I've gone thru' the option in the publishing settings on various file type
to publish but no joy?
Me, or the beta??

Highlight the common files in project explorer.
Right button mouse click.
Choose "Generate Code" Option.
