John,
If by that you mean, "Is there a code generator similar to CodeCharge =
that generates Windows programs?"" then the answer is yes. Check out =
Clarion for Windows at www.softvelocity.com and all the newsgroups on =
the news.softvelocity.com news server. I've used Clarion for 13 years =
now, and finding CodeCharge was a real blessing because of the =
similarities between the code generation functionality of the two =
products. IOW, I can be "instantly" productive in CodeCharge just as I =
can with Clarion, while also havingthe ability to extend the basic =
generated functionality with my own code.

Hi,
I agree fully with Richard, Jan and Shawn. There indeed are many Clarion =
developers who are using CodeCharge for web based development. The =
general direction of both the tools have a lot of similarities. For =
windows based database apps, you cannot go wrong with Clarion just as =
for internet database apps, you can't go wrong with CodeCharge.
BTW, do a search in google for "database programming RAD" and click on =
the first link.

Shawn,
If we have a CCS project, how can we integrate what we've done in CCS =
with ASP.Net or VS.Net
We've come up against some things that CCS can't handle and need to use =
either VB or C# for these parts.
Thanks

John,
If by that you mean, "Is there a code generator similar to CodeCharge that
generates Windows programs?"" then the answer is yes. Check out Clarion for
Windows at www.softvelocity.com and all the newsgroups on the
news.softvelocity.com news server. I've used Clarion for 13 years now, and
finding CodeCharge was a real blessing because of the similarities between
the code generation functionality of the two products. IOW, I can be
"instantly" productive in CodeCharge just as I can with Clarion, while also
havingthe ability to extend the basic generated functionality with my own
code.

Hi Glenn,
Gee, the names in this newsgroup are beginning to look strangely =
familiar <g>.
The way I do this is to begin everything in CCS and then open the =
project at some point in VS.Net. This creates a VS solutions file (make =
sure you save the solution file in the right place, VS.Net has it's own =
mind when it comes to this file). From there, so I can integrate some =
very advanced technology I will create the needed pages inside VS.Net =
itself. If this page needs to have some underlying class stuff that CCS =
adds in then I create the page initially in CCS (as a blank page) then =
remove it from the CCS tree (so it won't build it and screw me up). =
Then I modify this page in VS.Net and add stuff like a grid component, =
graphing, etc. This keeps everything properly communicating plus gives =
me the features I need when someone requests a really heavy-duty page or =
functionality.

Yep.... kind of looks like old home week at times here. Just wish the =
TopSpeed web effort more closely resemebled CCS.
Thanks for the help.

Hi Glenn,
Gee, the names in this newsgroup are beginning to look strangely =
familiar <g>.
HTH,

Shawn,
If we have a CCS project, how can we integrate what we've done in =

We've come up against some things that CCS can't handle and need to =
use either VB or C# for these parts.

And I would strongly agree with Richard. I found CodeCharge and =
Clarion to be very similar in their paradigms, which allowed me to pick =
up CodeCharge and start running. I still use CCS with my ASP.Net stuff =
(along with some of the more complex stuff in VS.Net...but shhhhhh).

CCS doesn't support 3rd party generic stuff (like Infragistics(which is =
what I use) or ComponentOne). You can extend CCS though but since it is =
so new (Gold release of CCS 1.0 came out at the end of April 2002 or so) =
no one has done much. the only one I know of is a calendar and that =
became redundant with the calendar released in CCS 2.0.
I use VS.Net for Infragistics stuff...

What do you see as the differences between CodeCharge and their ASP product?

If by that you mean, "Is there a code generator similar to CodeCharge that
generates Windows programs?"" then the answer is yes. Check out Clarion for

I haven't looked at the Clarion ASP product, so I can't say. I do know that
it consists of a set of templates that generate ASP for you from the Clarion
IDE, and that it costs more than CCS (which does a lot more than just
ASP) -- beyond that, I haven't a clue. <BG>

Glad to see a Clarion developer on the list. I've been very fond of Clarion
for many years as well but for web stuff have become quite fond of Cold
Fusion and while I haven't had a look at Clarion/ASP I'd love to see
Clarion/CF (Cold Fusion)

John,
If by that you mean, "Is there a code generator similar to CodeCharge that
generates Windows programs?"" then the answer is yes. Check out Clarion for
Windows at www.softvelocity.com and all the newsgroups on the
news.softvelocity.com news server. I've used Clarion for 13 years now, and
finding CodeCharge was a real blessing because of the similarities between
the code generation functionality of the two products. IOW, I can be
"instantly" productive in CodeCharge just as I can with Clarion, while also
havingthe ability to extend the basic generated functionality with my own
code.

Hi KP,
Have purchased the clarion/asp templates with a view to convert them to
clarion/CF - It's going slower then I would like it too, but I'm getting
there ...

Clarion / PHP is in the works now and I wouldn't be surprised to see the
Cold Fusion templates soon after.
