Does anyone know if in the new version or versions, Yes will be making it
possible to join on a label field like a listbox field.
I know how to di iti in code with php and dlookups, but a point and click
would be nice.

You should use Visual Query Builder in Data Source window.
At allows to join tables and then select fields from those tables.
