We are a small Police agency in Ohio. We have an existing sql database
complete with all tables and tons of data. I need a program that will
generate a front-end GUI for data entry and reporting. Will CodeStudio be
the solution?

Thanks all!

CodeCharge is designed to create (pretty easily) Web applications. You
would need to define your requirements a little bit more for someone to give
you an educated answer to your question.

I also develop in a RAD Development tool called Clarion. For complicated
reporting we use Crystal Reports.

Bill,
To answer this question, we need to know a little more about your technical
background and environment (is your server in-house, what desktop os are you
running, what sql database are you using, etc.). Have you used any of the
languages that CCS supports (ASP, PHP, JSP,etc)? Are you familiar with HTML
(FrontPage, dreamweaver or other html editor)? Have you worked with other
code generation tools? How familiar are you with SQL syntax? How would you
rate your experience (novice to expert)? Post a little more information and
you'll get recommendations from other newsgroup members.

This support group is an excellent resource to help you overcome the
learning curve of CCS, but if you are starting from zero, don't expect to
get immediate results (I would not recommend if you are a novice, unless you
are very committed to learning this product and the supported language, and
you have a lot of patience). I have tried many of the other tools available
and CCS is the best I have found (I have 30+ years experience as a
programmer, dba, systems admin, manager). If you would like to see an
example of what can be done with this product, go to www.codechargers.net
and look at the "under development" and/or "website showcase" areas or click
here http://safar.no-ip.org:81 to see some CCS samples that I am currently
working on (the login/password for the contact management system is
user/user).

Bill,

I would offer a third suggestion - pick up a copy of Code Charge Studio,
then hire a consultant to create for you a basic web site using your data.

Ask the consultant to provide you the original CCS files and then you
can use their work to add and expand. Keep the consultant handy until
you get the training wheels off.

I honestly don't know of a single tool that you could pick up that
doesn't have a very similar learning curve as CCS studio. Dreamweaver
MX, Visual Studio, Go Live all are going to be the same or worse than CCS.

The big difference between CCS and these others is for creating
data-entry web apps, it kicks their ass in terms of productivity.

If you need a LIVED web app (List-Insert-View-Edit-Delete) CCS can build
your app in a few days (sometimes hours, even minutes). I don't know if
you've ever hand-coded a search and search results page, but it you do
it in CCS - you'll never go back.

Hope this helps,

Hi Clay, are you classified as a consultant, I want a small app =

Cheers, Denis
