 Secure authentication with CCS

Hi everybody

CCS by itself does not provide a secure way of authentication. By
default passwords are transmitted in clear text. In some cases this
can be secured by using https:// - but not in all.

My idea is to build a module which allows an easy implementation of
CHAP logins in CCS applications (see i.e.
http://pajhome.org.uk/crypt/md5/chaplogin.html for the idea). Before I
start to code a question to the group:

Has anybody a better idea how to achieve secure authentication? Or is
there already a module around which does the job?

Thanks for your answers

Christoph
