what does this errror message mean ?

Operation must use an updateable query. (Microsoft JET Database Engine)

why ?

You don't give us much to go on Albert :-) Since you don't say I'm having
to guess that your using Access, If that's the case then I'll venture
another guess that your query's UniqueRecord property is set to yes. Now if
I've guessed right twice (what are the odds?) then if you set the querys
UniqueRoad property to no your problem should disappear. However if I've
guessed wrong twice then I haven't a clue and I've succeeded in wasting both
of our time.

Here is a FAQ from my web hosting site. It answers your question ...
When accessing my database, I am receiving the error "Operation must use an
updateable query". What does this mean?

This means that the database does not have the correct permissions set.

Check the server permissions.

The IUSR_Computername account needs READ, WRITE and DELETE permissions (eg
CHANGE) to both the Access file, and to the folder (to create and destroy
the .ldb lockfile).

you have to set the correct security permission. Make sure that the
directory that has your database in has the IIS user added.
