Hello,

I want to allow the user to browse a directory and pick a file to be stored
in my database. This is easy in VB, but I don't know how to do it in
Codecharge using ASP.

Thanks
Frank

Frank,

Are you talking about a user browsing a directory on their local PC
and then uploading it to your db?

If so, I believe Support just finished a file upload utility app or
you could use a component like SA FileUp. It also depends on what
kind of files you are storing and what database you are storing them
in. Again, assuming that I understand your question, it is easiest
for a user to upload a file to a dedicated directory of user files and
storing only a text link in your db.

Where can I get the file upload utility?

Thanks
Frank

Frank,

First, I would check with your host to see if they have any installed.
My host supplies SA FileUp, so all I need to do is follow the
documentation to access the component. This is one of the most
popular components and is available for purchase from
www.serverobjects.com. There are many available from various vendors
and they vary significantly in the control they give you as to what
your users upload to your server, i.e. file type (.gif, .jpg, .txt,
..html, .doc, .zip), the destination directory, file access
permissions, ability to rename the file before saving it, etc. There
is even a native upload ability for HTML. Again, it depends on the
control you need. You can also do a search at www.15seconds.com for
other components.

If you are using ACCESS, I do not "think" you will be able to upload
into your database, nor would you want to. Files can bloat the size
of ACEESS very quickly and slow it down. That is why I suggested you
only store the path to the file as text within your db.

If you are using SQL Server, store your files in or out of your db.

I'm sure others will have some input.

Good luck.

Anthony
