Hello,
I am getting this message:"Operation must use an updateable query.
(Microsoft JET Database Engine)" every now and then when I updated to CC
2.0.5. Before that it never happened. Did anyone experience the same and
what could be the problem?
Thanks
Kahtan

Check the security on the access database.
Sounds like you don't have enough rights to the file.

I am not sure how to address this security issue. Can you give me an
example?

What os are you running? if XP or 2000, right click on the database file and
look at the security settings. Also IUSR_machine name might needed to be
added.

Here is a reply from one user on gotocode.com:
Christian Hjortmar
Date Created 3/9/01 1:52:15 AM
Message After uploading my access db to my isp I could not update the
database. Got the error message "Operation must have an updateable query".
The solution in my case was to edit common.asp and change driver as seen in
code below. from this code strConn = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data
Source=d:\inetpub\wwwroot\kansli\tryckeri\OrtSok\postorter.mdb;Persist
Security Info=False" to this code strConn = "Driver={Microsoft Access Driver
(*.mdb)};DBQ=c:\inetpub\wwwroot\katalog\another
catalog\mycatlog\xxxxxxx.mdb".

Hi Kahtan,
Right click on your ACCESS database, to make sure that the READONLY
attribute is not being checked.
Go to the properties at the CodeCharge, select database tab, click the
yellow cylinder at the right of your connection string, click the advanced
tab, ensure that at the access permissions the read/write is being checked.
Thanks.

READ ONLY seems to be my problem...
I am using XP Pro and tried to map the server where I am publishing the
database on last month. When I accessed the properties of the database back
then, it didn't show its attributes. I called the Admin on the other side,
he said that he can see the attributes in properties and was able to change
permissions for me. Now the proplem reoccured because I deleted the database
and re-FTPd it again. Is there a trick in XP PRo I don't know about to
enable the attributes on a remote server to show up on my machine and change
them?
Also for some reason, I cannot map that server anymore! but I can access it
through FTP software.

Hi Kahtan,
Basically, as long as you are able to PING your server and you have the
access ID and Password, other part will be trivial.
Reinstall your FTP program and before you FTP you database up to the server
again, check its attributes.
I am also using XP Pro SP1 .
Thanks.

Basically, check if your hard disk has been converted to NTFS. If it is, no
matter what access changes you do to your database it won't be an updatable
query. I had the exact same problem as this, ticked away the read-only
etc...didn't work. Then I transferred my ASP and ACcess files to the otehr
hard disk which was FAT32 and everything worked fine. Try it. It should work
because I was using XP too and it converted my hard disk from fat32 to the
new format on installation. Right click on your hard disk in windows
explorer to check

I checked the properties of the file today before FTP. The Archive box was
checked. I unchecked it and re-FTPd again it worked. But I am still not sure
because when I view the properties of the same file on the remote server
(after I mapped it again today early morning) I still can't see the file
attributes. I informed the Admin on the other side late yesterday night
about that maybe he changed it from his side. So maybe the Archive box
doesn't matter.
For info the other server is an NT server not Unix so I cannot CHMOD it from
my side using the FTP program.
Is there another way to control the attributes other than right clicking on
the file then clicking on properties. Some people mentioned a way to do that
in Windows Explorer but I don't know the details.

Mine is FAT32. The problem is that I cannot view the attributes of the
database file on the NT remote server which is mapped on my drive. The Admin
from the other side has to do the changes. He mentioned though that if I
leave the properties window of the file open for sometime without touching
the computer, the attributes will pop up and be able to change them!!!!! I
tried leaving it open for 15 minutes nothing happened.

Yes, it will ALWAYS work on FAT32 formatted HD. -- On the NT/Win2000/XP-Pro the
System Administrator (not the user/developer) must do this: right click on the
database file and
look at the security settings. Also IUSR_machine name might needed to be
added.
