Is there any way to compare dates?

I have two fields - startdate, enddate.
both are oracle dates.
How do I use any scripting to ensure that the startdate is earlier than the
enddate and have a validation error message appear?

I'm using JSP btw. Saw the ASP example but no idea how this applies to
JSP...
