I am an experienced web developer. But I am new to code charge. I would
like to get some opinions, if it is OK
Questions
o The Studio version isn't out yet right? - what will it have that we ain't
got now?
o How long did it take you to get up to speed with codecharge?
o What are the gotchas with the product?
o Is their support any good? Is the NG support strong?
o What's the health of this company? Any one know?
o How many employees?
o Any guess about their annual sales?
o Any guesses about their number of installs?
Lots of tough questions I'm not nosey, its just that if I am to learn this,
I will have to invest the time.
We all have wasted time with products in the past - hope this is a good one.
TIA
Roger Clark

A lot from the look of the screen shots!

> o How long did it take you to get up to speed with codecharge?

Few hours to get my head around how it works, rest is pretty logical.

> o What are the gotchas with the product?

Nope, it's a give away at the price

> o Is their support any good? Is the NG support strong?

Best around, literally. You'd be hard pushed to find better.

> o What's the health of this company? Any one know?

What difference does this make?

> o How many employees?

Again what difference? I find the larger the company the less the staff
know or care about the products they produce.

> o Any guess about their annual sales?

That has to be the oddest question I've ever seen for basing using a
product or not ;-)

> o Any guesses about their number of installs?

Not much time, code charge is remarkably easy, even for the non
programmers amongst us, myself included :)

> We all have wasted time with products in the past - hope this is a

You can produce a data driven website in 60 minutes that a programmer
would charge you 5 times the total cost of codecharge to develop once. I
should know I use both! And the beauty is the code charge generated
sites so far have been bug free!

CodeCharge and CodeCharge Studio are 2 different products. CodeCharge
Studio will be announced on 24 April 2002 for public beta.

> o How long did it take you to get up to speed with codecharge?

15 minutes after you had downloaded your CodeCharge you bought, you are up
and running with your own ASP site.

> o What are the gotchas with the product?

Ease of use, comprehensive yet simple, value for money.

> o Is their support any good? Is the NG support strong?

Their support is number one, especially they really have a NG support
answering your technical questions, not just some volunteers or those 'Team
XXXXX' type of craps... Well... if you want to be well supported, enter your
queries at their support page.

> o What's the health of this company? Any one know?

You have to believe them, trust them. The moment I am able to generate the
full clean C# source code from the site I created, I am already on my
kneels..

> o How many employees?

Well... Alexey is equivalent to 20 good staffs!

> o Any guess about their annual sales?

Well... with CodeCharge Studio, it will make their company very interesting
to many VCs. Especially, if Macromedia can acquire Drumbeat 2000...

> o Any guesses about their number of installs?

From CodeCharge point of view, they hope that the entire world is using
their system. From developer point of view, we hope that not many people
know about them, so that we can utilize this secret weapon and crunch all
our competitors.

> Lots of tough questions I'm not nosey, its just that if I am to learn
this,

Well... better late than never. You are here, you are already here, and we
are glad.

> I will have to invest the time.

Glad to see you here. You will see many other fellow Clarion programmers
here. When I announced the CodeCharge products almost a year ago, they
raised similar questions. And... after a year, they are really your good
reference.... they are still using CodeCharge.

> We all have wasted time with products in the past - hope this is a good
one.

CodeCharge team is not just good, they are simply marvellous!! I respect
them, especially their knowledge on the programming language.

Thanks.

Thanks Kelvin
You continually amaze me. Your energy seems boundless.
My questions about size, strength etc., are for good reason.
I have been made a software orphan too many times.

But.....
More questions
What about multiple developers working on the same project via a network -
can do?
Where are these people located?
Do they have yearly user conferences?
Is this the only NG?

TIA all
Roger Clark

Hi Roger,

You can simply create different CodeCharge project files, utilizing the same
data source located in the network. Each one of the programmers will
concentrate on their area, and by the time they finished their part, you
simply need to import those procedures into the main project files like what
we are doing with Clarion.

Well... they are only one year old, most probably coming year...

> Is this the only NG?

Yes, else you may have to go to www.gotocode.com

Thanks.

Roger,
I've looked at a number of different products over the past several years.
CodeCharge is the only product that I have purchased that I feel is worth
more than you pay for it. Your concerns about the size of the company are
valid, but considering the price, it is really not much of a risk. This
product will pay for itself many times over if you use it for development. I
developed a site in a matter of weeks that would have taken me months
without codecharge. 50,000+ lines of code (php). Less than 5% handcoded. I
used php w/o templates (http://www.cool-offers.com). Here's what I would do
to accelerate the learning curve. Study the generated code to become
familiar with where the event code is used. Familiarize yourself with the
functions generated in the common file. Review the tips at
http://www.gotocode.com . This group is very helpful. Post something here
and you will probably get an answer or a workaround idea. No product is
perfect, neither is codecharge, but it is the absolute best software
generation tool I've used since the early days of FoxBase (and that's a long
time).

Hi

I´ve been reading the replies to this questions and all what I saw is
beauty, does any of you had a bad experience using this software?

I'm also thinking in downloading it to test it, and probably purchase
it....

Hi Oscar,

The bad experience I have is not knowing and not downloading the product
much earlier.

Just download the product and test it out, you will be overwhelmed!!

Thanks.

Wow, that was fast

Thanks...
BTW how's Singapore doing? I loved the city.... Went on Nov 97...

Hi Oscar,

If you are running the XP Pro, the answer is Yes. If you are running the
Home Edition, most probably you may have to install the PWS from your
FrontPage 98 CD.

Your XP Pro should run IIS 5.0, so simply configure your home address to
127.0.0.1 should set it to local..

Thanks.
