 setVisible(false) refusing to hide image control

I have an image link control on an editablegrid that is not hiding the control (beforeShow event). Code is:

e.getPage().getGrid("unit").getControl("ExpenseLink").setVisible(false);

Any ideas? Am I possibly using the wrong "getControl" method... something like "getImage" instead? It compiles & runs as expected, doesn't throw classCastException or anything. I use setVisible() on other controls w/no problems.
