I'm a newbie in CCS and I'm trying to connect to a Progress 9.1c db using odbc but the problem is I get the message when testing the connection:
[MERANT][ODBC PROGRESS driver][PROGRESS]Exceeding permissable number of connections
The ODBC diver version is MERANT 3.6 32-bit Progress SQL92 v9.c . I know I supplied the right host, port ad user id....
any ideas?

I don't work with Progress but I see others asking almost the same exact question and getting answers at: http://www.google.com/search?q=%22Exceeding+permissable...+connections%22 http://www.google.com/search?q=%22Exceeding+permissible...+connections%22
Which leads to Progress support Website: http://esupport.progress.com
(search for "permissable number of connections" and you will find 42 results)

thanks for the reply.....
I got the solution......its a progress db setting. Increasing the no. of clients per server in the settings of the concerned database solved this problem. I compared it with the other settings of progress db ... I seem to have forgotten it since I was able to access the other progress databases before...

having solved the previous problem, I ran into another one...which seems I couldn't get around...
scenario:
one server runs the web/asp app and will connect it to another server running the progress db. I made a user odbc connection on the web/asp server and had a "test connection succeeded". I was able to browse the tables of database I was using and was successful in building the application.
upon publishing the project and accessing it with the browser i get the following:
Unable to establish connection to database.
Error information:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x80004005)
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified
Other possible cause of this problem:
The database cannot be opened, most likely due to incorrect connection settings or insufficient security set on your database folder or file.
For more details please refer to http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q306518
any ideas???

Most likely the problem is:
Quote :I made a user odbc connection
Since this is a user connection then only you can access it when you are logged in and using your desktop. But when you are using an Internet browser then you are treated like any anonymous/Internet user. Please create a System ODBC connection instead, so that Internet users can also use it.

BTW, you may need to delete your user ODBC first. Please do not create 2 connections with the same name.
