I am new to web development. I am using Frontpage 2003 and MSAccess 2003. I am hosted by myhosting.com. I downloaded codecharge with the idea that I could build a web application myself. It will be for the purpose of inputting real estate listings online and also for my customers to view listings online. I want to be able to register web visitors and allow landlords to register and input their own listings. Think I can play with the software a little at a time to learn (I created my website that way). I have an existing Access database and I cannot figure out how to start a new project connecting it to the existing database. I am still in the trial phase and I cannot purchase the software unless I know it will work. Help.

Have no fear, it does work!

Right-click "Connections" and select "New Connection" in the Project
Explorer (tree). Then just select the MDB file after you click the "Build"
button.

You have two different "modes" of connection - the local (design) mode and
the server (published) mode, since the database will probably be different
on the server (at least the path to it will likely be different).

John,
BTW, since you mentioned FrontPage, I would recommend that you use CCS without the FrontPage Add-In in the beginning stages. CCS includes a simple Web editor and our tutorials and documentation are all based on the CCS itself. I recommend starting with our Task Manager tutorial ( http://docs.codecharge.com/studio/html/QuickStart/Creat...AppBuilder.html )

Another tutorial explains specifically how to create a new connection for MS Access:
http://docs.codecharge.com/studio/html/QuickStart/Creat...DBConnProj.html
http://docs.codecharge.com/studio/html/QuickStart/Creat...DesignConn.html

Once you get the idea how CCS works and you get comfortable with it then you should be able to start using CCS within FrontPage (via FrontPage Add-In).

thanks for the help. I already have an existing frontpage site, and my goal was to make the database modules created with codecharge part of it. Therefore, how could I accomplish that without using frontpage as was suggested? Also, how does this get published? Doesn't have to be pat of frontpage so that I can publish it with the rest of my frontpage site?

One more thing everyone should know. I have, prior to using codecharge, uploaded my msaccess database to the /fpdb folder, created a database connection, and displayed simple tables on the website just as a test. This is all using ASP. I suspect that the best way to accomplish my goals is to build a codecharge project, store it in the same folder as the database. Is that right?

I recommend going through the tutorial first with only the CCS, then you can work with your own project in FrontPage. This just a recommendation, not a requirement.

When you work with your database you probably will have 2 databases, one on your local computer for testing, and another one on your Web server.
It is OK to place the database in your CCS project locally. But on the Web server the database should be in a different folder from where the ASP files are being published. It should be in a folder specially designated by your Web josting company. Otherwise someone could simply download your whole database/.mdb.
