It seems you are interested in building a component that can be reused. The "date picker" component is an example of how you can do this sort of thing. I do remember some ideas and topics floating around this forum on building your own reusable components. There may well be a section in the CCS documents for doing just that.
The two challenges you face are - understanding well enough the CCS component architecture and coming up with a component design that is reusable.
