newbee question: when is the jsp generated ?

Hi,
I am trying to add a checkbox .

After adding that checkbox in the Design tab, I save and click 'Generate Code' on the page then I publish the project on Tomcat.

Sadly the checkbox did not appear.
I checked the jsp file, and did not see the change there.

Could somebody tell me the right way to do this ?
