The Windows or web browser will automatically go to the names starting with "w". At least this works on my computer on every Web page that contains listbox.
I don't know where you can get the names of all cities, however if you create such listbox then the Web page will be so big that it will be loading for 10+ minutes and users' computers will probably hang due to lack of memory wen trying to process or display such listbox... :(

That list will be way too big.
Perhaps pop up a window that they can 'search' for a name and give them a list to select from and use that value to populate your field

:*) I think peter you are rite regarding the listbox :( then i think i need to go through with dependent box on don side so i can divided city on the basis of states or other options from E43509 is also appreciated since i m thinking to give fill in the blanks type of text box with popup page so if any one want to include city from there he will otherwise just include it directly. Any way this is my class project which i can mold according the wish but usually i like to go with quality and knowledge.

Thanks a lot for your guidance

Imran,
Looks like the list of US cities is at http://www.census.gov/tiger/tms/gazetteer/places2k.txt and it is not as long as I thought (previously I tried searching for "a" at http://www.mit.edu:8001/geo and my browser hung).
Still pop-up list may be better but your second posting indicated that your goal is to improve the speed of entry and I don't think that the pop-up window would improve the speed for me, at least when I am entering my own city on various forms. However, our CCS Example Pack includes pop-up list example, which is also live at http://examples.codecharge.com/ExamplePack/PopUpList/PopUpList.php
