 'remember me' saving login info in php

How can i implement a 'remember me' function to remember the user login /password over time?

I have some knowledge of php but not very much. I now store the user/pass plaintext in a coockie, but that doesn't autologin.

It's about ASP but it talks about how to use cookies to do the autologin.
