Hello,

We're preparing CodeCharge Studio 2.3 Beta release, which should be officially available within the next few days.
As our initial testing was positive I thought I'd post the link here for those who are not afraid to try anything and have time to spare during the upcoming holiday weekend:
http://download2.codecharge.com/CCStudio2_3.exe
The previous version of CCS can (but doesn't need to be) uninstalled prior to installing 2.3.

The main new features in version 2.3 are listed at http://docs.codecharge.com/studio/html/UserGuide/Intro/...WhatsNew23.html

There will be an official Beta announcement within the next few days. The main reason it will be released as a Beta version is to allow the Beta users to determine if their existing projects were not affected by the changes before recommending the upgrade to everyone else. Please backup your projects before installing the new version.

Too bad nothing new for the .NET users in this version, we felt left out. :-(

Oh, but the SFTP and TOP/LIMIT features are for you :-)
Actually no changes were done for any specific programming languages except a new upload method in ASP. All other features were global and affect .NET just as much.
There were also many minor changes and bug fixes not listed on that page, including .NET. The release notes will be available when the official release will be finalized.

:-)

That's sound much better, thanks for clarify all that. I can't wait for the final release.

Have a great day!

I read your list of new features but I hope there is a separate document forth coming that outlines ALL bugs fuxed and features added. I don't care if it is only availble to registered users of purchased licenses but it would be a tremedous help.

I already understand that one of the new features not listed in the pre-announcement is one that I need quite badly (handling individual rows in an Editable Grid)..

I believe listing all changes will help developers and reduce support calls when things that worked once don't work now - or work differently.

I am only pleading this case because I cannot find a comprehensive list for other releases.

Langston,
Please refer to my previous post above. The release notes will be posted at http://support.codecharge.com/updates.asp as usually. Here are sample release notes for a previous version of CCS: http://support.codecharge.com/rel_notes.asp?version=14

However, it may not be possible to list every single change. While implementing a feature or changing an existing one, the code also needs to be changed accordingly. We cannot document every single code line change, our goal always is for all "things that worked once to continue working in the same fashion" but there may be some undesired (or desired) effects that we're not aware of. The reason for the Beta release is to check with users willing to test if their projects weren't negatively affected.

Dear Peter, maibe in the 2.3 version you added a Calendar database component?

I'm speakig about a Calendar Builder/Component with the ability to display returned database rows as a calendar with monthly, weekly or daily views. Database row is placed on appropriate calendar day based on date and time in database row.

Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,
Ivano C.

Memory leak in build is still present and there is a charset problem with the build of included files.

Warning:The charsets specified for the HTML template of included page "J:\LIBMGR\Header.ccp" and the generated page do not match.
Warning:The charsets specified for the HTML template of included page "J:\LIBMGR\Footer.ccp" and the generated page do not match.
Warning:The charsets specified for the HTML template of included page "J:\LIBMGR\ZJSRoutines.ccp" and the generated page do not match.

That's ok for Beta but the build memory leak is NOT fixed.

I reverted back to old version and await a proper release when the build memory leak is properly resolved. Switch on your task manager and opt to view 'VM Size' to see what I am talking about. Build your project a few times and look at CCS.exe process then close your project and still memory is consumed and not released. Eventually you will run out of memory and a Java Ant build will fail.

This beta is not for me.

Is this memory leak going to be fixed sometime soon ? It is definately a pain to have to stop everything I am doing to restart CCS every few hours.

I am aware that many (if not all) memory leak issues have been fixed for the future version 3.0 of CCS. It was not possible to include all fixes in current versionss (2.x) because some code needed to be rewritten and some components replaced, which we try to avoid in minor version releases for various reasons (including additional delays). We use some 3rd party components that have leaks on their own and we have limited access to fixing them. Of course some of these issues probably relate directly to CCS as well.
I will check with our engineering if they can at least improve the current situation before the final 2.3 release, or soon after (2.3.x or 2.4).

Please note that CodeCharge Studio 2.3 Beta was officially released today. More information at http://support.codecharge.com/updates.asp
This version is only slightly different from the Beta 2.3 pre-release announced here on May 27.

In my opinion, if you have a spare PC then install the latest beta version as this beta version is still not completed. My mistake to install it over my old version and found out that the calendar picker doesn't work (I am using the .NET VB), support has confirmed this problem, I also got other error messages when trying to build and publish a working project from the old version. I have forwarded the errors to support.

I applause CCS for releasing the Beta this way, any problems can be resolved, but it would be nice if CCS allow us to have both versions installed on the same PC. For now I have to install/re-install the versions which is painful. :(

Could YesSoftware comment a bit on the improved support for 'include chains'?

At this moment i rarely use includes because if i use a include with custom code in it on multiple pages, the code would run into errors, because of the way references work in include pages. I'm not certian anymore about the exact conditions when this would happen, but i then decided that include pages would not be good for code re-using.

Some users reported problems with including pages within includable pages, therefore trying to create multi-level include chains. We fixed the issues reported to us, although I'm not sure if they were related to using custom code in includable pages.

Yes, that is your choice not ours - so what you wish to use should be solid?

If you find that M$ components such as treeboxes and html controls are below your standards then I guess that version 3 will not use them?

I know that I would not touch them and this is why I use Java.

Horrid XML parsers come to mind - just don't trust anything without at least a sub .5 version level!!!

Certainly do not trust any new features before you have low level unit tested them...

IMHO(?), unit testing rather than end-to-end is the only way foward. It is a shame that we have to accomodate for faults in the platform in common use but that is the reality of the situation. Not to do so brings discredit to any software using the platform.

YesSoftware

What does "issue" in the release notes document mean? Are they fixed issues or known issues that you haven't gotten around to fixing yet?

The release notes always list things there were fixed/resolved/implemented (released).

After installing CCS 2.3b I have a consistent problem with record pages breaking if the rows are moved using the ALT+ up or down key shortcuts. I did a complete uninstall and reinstall of CCS to see if that will help but the problem still occurs. After moving rows the fields will be blank and, other than recreating the pages from scratch, I've found no way to repair them. Is there any other background info that will help isolate the problem?

davel,

I just tried to replicate this issue, but couldn't.
Are you sure that this started happening only in CCS 2.3, and wasn't happening in 2.2?
I recommend sending a sample page where this occures to our support at http://support.codecharge.com. We could then check if there is possibly some issue with your HTML structure that may be causing this.

::
Just upgraded/published the entire rexdesign CCS Tutorials Foundry site to use the new version 2.3.1.85

Posted the previous result of beta test from newsgroup but it does not show in this thread, two-way sync not working ??

With the exception of the forum the entire Tutorial site (257 files at present) is built with CCS excluding a few 3rd-party components such as htmlarea and fckeditor and uses modules from the examples published in the Foundry section.

Only one issue appeared at site generation

error message
"Warning :'unicode' charset specified via 'charset' HTML META tag does not match ''iso-ir-6' (System Default)' File Encoding in Project Settings

When testing is complete a review will be published here
