Microsoft Data Link error OLE DB provider no longer available

I had problems the other day with getting CodeCharge studio to load and thought I had resolved it by installing the latest MDAC. Now when I got to make a new connection or use an existing connection to an SQL database, I get the following error after selecting OLE DB Provider for SQL Server:

Microsoft Data Link Error:
Provider is no longer available. Ensure that the provider is installed correctly.

Can someone please shed some light on how to correct this problem
