Hi all--

I'm evaluating CCS, and need help with some errors.

I've tweaked the example 'TaskMan', by adding some fields to the sample 'intranet' database, changing a few table names, and creating new Grid, Search, and Record objects. The app is on IIS using MS SQL (I prefer Apache+PHP, but this evn was convenient).

It took me a while to get JOINs straight and the various builders and all the properties attributes, and I'm pretty clear on these now. The app is working, but I'm now reduced to coaxing any changes, meaning that most changes result in "Warning: Unable to find beginning of block...." -- my only recourse is to make frequent saves and revert whenever a publish goes away.

Peter fielded my gripes for a while, but since I'm evaluating I guess taking it to you users is more appropriate, since he's probably busy with paying customers.

I've tried reinstalling CCS, and I'm very diligent about keeping the db structure clean. But when I add a Listbox, edit any HTML, the block error cometh.

CCS seems like a great idea -- GUI web-app code building -- but it seems very sensitive.

Has anybody else become stuck in this manner? Any advice is very welcome.

PS, Peter -- I'm sorry for being such a nag.

I don't know if by "edit html" you mean rearranging the laout in the
"Design" panel, but that frequently caused me trouble like what you
described. I now do minor html changes in the "Html" panel or an external
HTML editor. Whenever I change text that is inside some container (like the
caption text of a Sorter) I right click and select the appropriate item from
the popup menu (such as <A> properties).

The problem lies with getting the template blocks (BEGIN/END) properly
nested. For reasons I don't understand, sometimes they get overlapped where
one block's BEGIN precedes the previous block's END. While you should not
have to, it's not too hard to scan through and find these - just move them
to where they need to be.

I have also found that adding some attributes to some html tags causes
problems. Apparently not all attributes are recognized by the CCS parser
and they get messed up.

Both of these situations are pretty rare. I guess you learn what not to do
after a while. CCS does a pretty good job, but it's not perfect. We just
have to document the problems, give them to Yes, so they can fix them up.

"Edit HTML" actually means both in the HTML edit pane, and changing text in the Design view. It seems my app has become extremely unstable, as almost anything causes these block errors.

I'm also having trouble JOINing a table -- for example, in TaskMan example, I'd like to use 'emp_name' in place of user_assign_to, but I can't to get the value to show. Any hints?

Thanks

I find that sometimes when I remove a component, not all the tags are removed... so you have to go through and remove them.

Also, cut and paste the html into a text editor liek Notetab or some other useful editor as looking at it in the Codecharge desktop can be a bit difficult.

Just my two cents and hope this helps.

Cheers / Stephanie
